Who was the first person in Space?

The first person to be launched into space was Yuri A. Gagarin (1934-68), a Soviet Cosmonaut. Gagarin orbited Earth in the Vostok 1, which was launched on the 12th of April, 1961. His flight lasted for one hour and forty eight minutes. Gagarin became a national hero.
