What was the Flensburg Regime

Following the death of Hitler and Goebbels, the government of Germany was temporarily assumed by Hitler’s appointed successor, Grand Admiral Karl Donitz. Donitz had his headquarters at Flensburg near the Danish border. Donitz was able to operate freely with a cabinet of minister as well as a small defense force until the 23rd of May 1945 when he and his “government” was arrested by British soldiers. This “government” ruled nothing as Germany was occupied by the allied forces, however the regime did authorized the German surrender on the 7th of May.
